Swiss Coffee OC-45 is on half the walls in my neighborhood, and I've now used it in a living room and on a stucco exterior. It's a warm off-white with real creaminess to it. Here's where it earns the hype, and the one spot where I'd pass.
What Is Swiss Coffee OC-45?
It's a warm off-white from Benjamin Moore's Off-White collection, with an LRV of 81.91. That's solidly in white territory, but a clear step down from the bright whites. Chantilly Lace OC-65 sits around 90, and you'd never mix the two up with both on a wall.
On a full wall it reads soft and a little creamy, never stark. That's the entire reason people keep reaching for it. White enough to lift a dark room, warm enough that the room doesn't feel like a gallery.
The catch with any color this light is that it carries almost no pigment to hold it steady. Your floors, your countertops, and your bulbs all push it around more than you'd expect. That comes up repeatedly below.
Does Swiss Coffee OC-45 Look Yellow?
Sometimes, yes. The base is a warm yellow-beige with a faint green sitting underneath, and which one you see depends almost entirely on your light.
Under a 2700K bulb it looks exactly like the chip: creamy, soft, the color everybody pictures when they hear the name. Switch to 4000K or a daylight LED and the same paint flattens out, and you'll catch a thin green cast where the wall meets the corner.
My rule: if you have honey oak floors, older granite, or brass, the yellow reads as warmth and nobody notices. If you've got cool gray tile, white quartz, and bright LED cans, Swiss Coffee will look yellow against them. Not subtly. Pick your bulb temperature before the paint goes on, not after.
What's the Closest Match From Other Brands?
Sherwin-Williams Alabaster SW 7008 is the usual swap. LRV 82, so the lightness is a dead heat, but its undertone leans green where Swiss Coffee leans yellow, which makes it read a touch more neutral in the same room.
Then there's the trap: Behr sells its own Swiss Coffee. Same name, different paint, and it's noticeably creamier and yellower than Benjamin Moore's. People order by name at the wrong store and wonder why their walls look like butter.
I ran a photo of my living room through Paintuma before committing, mostly to see Swiss Coffee on my actual wall with the other brands' near-matches lined up next to it. The yellow gap between them showed up immediately.
How Does Light Direction Change It?
North-facing rooms are where this color does its best work. That cool, flat light knocks the yellow back and Swiss Coffee lands as a soft cream instead of a warm one. If you've been told north rooms need a warm white, this is the warm white.
South-facing rooms are the opposite problem. All-day sun amplifies the warmth, and by mid-afternoon a south wall can glow properly buttery. Some people want that. If you don't, go cooler.
East rooms read creamy in the morning and settle down by lunch. West rooms are quiet until late, then pick up an orange cast for an hour or two around sunset.
What Trim Color Should You Use?
Do one of two things. Either keep the trim Swiss Coffee in a different sheen — flat or eggshell on the walls, satin or semi-gloss on the casing — or jump to a genuinely brighter white like Chantilly Lace OC-65 or Simply White OC-117.
What doesn't work is a white that's only slightly different. Put a near-match next to Swiss Coffee and both colors look faintly wrong, like one of them got the wrong tint base.
Skip cool, blue-leaning whites entirely. They fight the warmth and make the walls look dingy by comparison. For coordinating wall colors elsewhere in the house, Edgecomb Gray HC-173 and Manchester Tan HC-81 sit in the same warm family and flow well from room to room.
Swiss Coffee OC-45 vs. White Dove OC-17
These are the two everyone agonizes over. White Dove is a little brighter, around LRV 85, and more muted, which makes it read cooler and slightly grayer on a wall. Swiss Coffee is creamier and has more visible warmth.
I put Swiss Coffee OC-45 and White Dove side by side in Coloraw on the same wall and slid between them, and the difference is bigger than the numbers suggest. White Dove looks like a white. Swiss Coffee looks like a soft cream.
Pick White Dove if you're nervous about yellow, if your finishes run cool, or if you want trim and walls to read crisp. Pick Swiss Coffee if you want the room to feel softer and you've got warm wood or warm metals to back it up.
Is Swiss Coffee OC-45 Good for Exteriors?
It's very good on stucco, which is why you see it all over California. Full sun washes it toward white, so you get brightness without the glare a true white throws back at you at two in the afternoon.
The warning is the same one from inside, just bigger. Yellow is harder to control across an entire facade, and a large south or west wall in strong afternoon light can turn distinctly creamy while the shaded north side stays neutral. On a house with big blank wall planes, that split is noticeable from the street.
Give it something to push against: a deeper door color, dark window frames, or a bronze garage. Swiss Coffee on its own with white trim over the whole exterior reads washed out.
How Should You Test It Before You Buy?
Two coats, on poster board, moved around the house across a full day. A chip won't tell you anything useful about a color with this little pigment in it.
Hold the sample against your countertop and your floor, not just the wall. Those are what actually decide whether the yellow reads as warm or as dated. Then check it at night under your own bulbs.
